BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT, HERON - Nycticorax nycticorax

It is present in all continents except in Oceania. It nidifies in colonies ( garzaie ) in humid zones. Summer visitor, winters in Africa. In Italy nesting, localized wintering. Active mainly at night, during the day it stays in the dormitories on the trees. Dimensions: 58 - 65 cm. Wingspan: 90 - 100 cm.
